You’re in luck Melbourne because the delightful Disney+ Drive-In is back this summer for another season of old-fashioned fun with a modern twist.

After such a difficult year, the Disney+ Drive-In wants to help get your 2022 started off well. Between January 12th and February 26th at Melbourne Showgrounds, they’ll have a packed collection of old classics and new blockbusters to keep you entertained during the warm summer nights.

And there’s an extra cool addition this time round: DoorDash has joined as a partner, meaning you can order some grub via the DoorDash app, tell them where your car’s located, and they’ll bring your food directly to you so you can focus on the movie. Other new features include a seating area at Melbourne Showgrounds, The Park, an astroturfed section that offers a ‘front row’ effect, complete with beanbags and table service.

The movie lineup looks like it has something to suit all tastes. Here’s a look at some of the highlights:

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings – The 25th entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was also its first with an Asian lead. Simi Liu is fantastic as the titular Shang-Chi, who’s forced to confront his past when his father, the leader of the Ten Rings, draws him and his sister into a search for a mythical village.

The Parent Trap – This movie will remind you why Lindsey Lohan was one of the greatest child actors ever. The classic 1998 romcom sees Lohan pull double duty as a set of twins who are luckily reunited after being separated at birth. Together, they then scheme to get their divorced parents back together.

Thor: Ragnarok – One of the funniest entries in the MCU, directed Taika Waititi wonderfully entered the mainstream with this movie. The sequel to 2011’s Thor and 2013’s Thor: The Dark World absolutely makes those two pale in comparison, with Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett and more hamming it up to great effect.

Pretty Woman – Romcoms don’t come much more iconic than this. Julia Roberts is outstanding as a down-on-her-luck Hollywood prostitute who begins a relationship with a wealthy escort (Richard Gere). “You work on commission, right?”

Die Hard – It might be a Christmas movie – to some – but there’s plenty to enjoy in the 1988 action romp all year round. Bruce Willis plays an exhausted detective who finds himself caught up in a terrorist takeover of an L.A. skyscraper. The movie belongs to Alan Rickman, though, who is unsettlingly sinister as the villain at the heart of the plot.
