Disney CEO, Bob Chapek was asked about the company’s decision to fire Gina Carano from ‘The Mandalorian’, at the company’s annual shareholders meeting.
Carano, who played the role of Cara Dune in The Mandalorian series was abruptly ousted from the franchise last month, due to a series of controversial Instagram stories in which she suggested that Republicans face similar persecution as the Jewish did during the Holocaust.
Her stories read, “Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors… even by children.”
She continued, “Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?”

According to Variety, Chapek didn’t necessarily tackle the situation directly in his response, but he did seem to reject notions of “ideological bias”.
He said, “I don’t really see Disney as characterizing itself as right-leaning or left-leaning.” He also mentioned that Disney represents “values that are universal”, including values like decency, integrity.
Prior to being asked to speak on Carano’s firing, he said, “The fact is that we have a tremendous opportunity now to bring this country back together and unite people. One thing we can all agree on is the power of Disney to unite us all.”
While the internet was outraged at Carano’s wild world views and did nothing but plot her removal from the series via the hashtag #FireGinaCarano, her co-star, Bill Burr, who plays Migs Mayfield was there to back her up.
He said, “She was an absolute sweetheart. Super-nice fucking person. And you know, whatever, somehow someone will take this video and fucking make me say something else and try to get rid of my bald action figure!”
