The latest trailer from Doctor Who shows that there is no place or time that the Barbie and Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa won’t go.

First announced in early 2022, the praised actor has finally landed on Disney+ following a trio of specials starring David Tennant, Catherine Tate and Neil Patrick Harris. The latter concluded with Tennant seemingly splitting down the middle, leaving him on Earth while Gatwa embarks on adventures across time and space.

But it was the Christmas special that finally saw Gatwa in full force. Joining by Ruby Sunday, played by Millie Gibson, the pair saved a baby Goblins, sang a duet on a flying pirate ship and partied in a night club (Just the norm, right?).

The end of the festive episode featured a jaw-dropping teaser of what is to come in 2024.

Featured in the short but sweet clip is a trip to see The Beatles at Abby Road Studios, creepy monsters, a scooter ride through London and the fan-favourite return of Yasmin Finney as Rose.

Interestingly, the new series is being referred to as ‘Season 1’, marking a soft reboot for the show as it attempts to bring in a bigger international audience with its new home on Disney+.

“Tell me how you’re feeling right now?” asked BBC1 Radio’s film critic Ali Plumb, referring to the anticipation of Gatwa’s Doctor Who debut.

“I feel like my kid is about to go to school,” responded Gatwa. “And I’m so happy you’re going to school. You’re going to make lots of friends and you’re gonna learn lots of interesting things… But also ‘Oh my god, are they going to be okay?! But ultimately, proud. It’s a beautiful show.

If the Christmas special is anything to go by, fans and newcomers are truly in for a treat when Gatwa’s full first season drops in May.

The David Tennant specials and Ncuti Gatwa’s Christmas special is available to stream on Disney+ now.
