The hit musical 9 to 5 has made its way down under with a staggering score from Dolly Parton and a cast full of phenomenal actors.

Based on the 1980 film of the same name, 9 to 5 tells the story of three female employees navigating their way through a sexist company, under the eye of an egotistical, lying and hypocritical boss.

The show originally premiered in Los Angeles back in 2008 but has made its way to the Capitol Theatre in Sydney.

Richard Reid saw the premiere in Sydney and had this to say:

“I’ve always been a big fan of the movie, and of course, Dolly making her big screen debut.”

“So, I was really struck and pleasantly surprised when they really opened up the movie into a full-scale musical”

Applauding every actor in the show, Reid highlights lead Casey Donovan as a stand out performance.

“We all know her as just a superb singer, but her acting – I was just so blown away by the pathos and the emotion that she brought to the role, and her comic timing is supreme.”

“Of course, the movie is one of those comedy classics from I believe it was around 1980. It was really the beginning of equal pay for equal jobs, and it really had a very feminist stamp to it.”

“And to see the stage show, it really showed how far we haven’t come in terms of equal pay for equal jobs, and women in the workforce really not being taken seriously.”

Wynonah Dove, a Parton mega fan and impersonator, praised the show endlessly. “It just got to your heart. It made me so happy. I cried, I laughed. “

“All of the actors did such a phenomenal job; the music, the singing, everything.”

“I was blown away and I was very pleasantly surprised.”

9 to 5 will make its way to the Lyric Theatre in Brisbane in May before moving down to Melbourne’s State Theatre in July.
