If you’ve not had the chance to watch Atlanta yet, you really should: it’s one of the most uncompromising and nuanced TV series of the last few decades, with some of the downright strangest episodes to ever air.

It’s own creator certainly believes in its worth: Donald Glover once declared “Atlanta S3+S4 are going to be some of the best television ever made. Sopranos only ones who can touch us,” in a since-deleted tweet, and he’s sticking to his guns.

In a new interview with Variety ahead of the third season’s premiere this Thursday, March 24th, Glover discussed that notorious tweet. “I talk my sh*t on the internet,” he said. “I said Sopranos and sh*t. I’m not backing down from that sh*t. I’m holding my nuts out on that sh*t. I just want (audiences) to know this sh*t is good. It’s high quality sh*t. I hope you can have cursing (in your story).”

Imagining being in the legendary sitcom that is Community and that not being the show you’re most proud of working on. I suppose it’s much better to work with LaKeith Stanfield than Chevy Chase though.

Atlanta‘s third season arrives on FX this Thursday – judging by the early reviews, it’s another excellent set of episodes from Glover and co. The new season transfers the action from Atlanta to Europe, with Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry) in the middle of a European tour, bringing along Earn (Glover) and Darius (Stanfield) to enjoy the chaos. A fourth season has also been confirmed to be on the way, set to debut later this year.

What do you think the best TV series since The Sopranos is? Breaking Bad? The Americans? Clearly Donald Glover hasn’t been blessed to see the latest season of Netflix’s Love Is Blind yet.
