Adam McKay of Don’t Look Up, The Big Short and Anchorman is developing his next big political disaster film, that will be based on the January 6th, 2021 Capitol riot.
Late last year, McKay stirred the pot with Don’t Look Up. The film focuses on 2 scientists who are trying to convince the world of impending doom while the politicians and corporations are only concerned about their own personal gain.
As you would expect, the negligence of our leaders ends in disaster.
Though the film is not strictly based on a true story, the parallels McKay draws to our own world is made very, very clear.

But McKay isn’t done depressing us quite yet.
According to Deadline, the film is currently titled J6 and will be directed by Billy Ray, whose claim to fame was his mini-series The Comedy Rule which followed Donald Trump when he butted heads with FBI Dir. James Comey.
“Billy has written a screenplay that is not only harrowing and terrifying but is sure to become the definitive cinematic document on that gut-wrenching day,” said McKay.
Ray has been developing the film since shortly after the attack. Days after January 6th, Ray traveled to Washington D.C. to interview police officers and members of Congress who were trapped in the Capitol.
“The goal was to do a ground-level view of a momentous day,” said Ray. “It’s about protesters who became rioters and cops who became defenders of democracy. Someone else can tell the story of the chaos at the White House on that day. I wanted to stay in the trenches.”
Producing alongside McKay will be Todd Schulman, Josh McLaughlin, Cullen Hoback and Shane Salerno.
J6 is still in the very early days of development so there is currently no release date.
