Earlier today, we reported how boutique confectioners Doughnut Time have now closed half of their Australian stores. Now, the company’s ex-employees are hitting back with claims they haven’t seen a paycheque in weeks.

After first opening their doors in 2015, Doughnut Time saw a rapid rise to fame (let’s face it, when you offer food that looks as if its designed for Instagram, you’re going to see a bit of success), but now they’ve been forced to close half of their Aussie stores.

“I am accepting the blame. I expanded too quickly,” owner Damian Griffiths told Broadsheet. “I guess I had too many big ideas and dreams when I started the development of Limes and then expanded Doughnut Time around Australia.”

However, as Pedestrian reports, former employees of the company aren’t too pleased with how things have gone and are hitting back as best they can.

“Doughnut Time hasn’t paid us in weeks!!! And now we all got fired,” reads a sign on the now-closed doors of the QVB location.

Former staff have also taken to social media to vent their anger and frustration. “Friends from England and Australia do not support Doughnut Time at any point, ever,” wrote Franka Deluca on Facebook. “Many of us have lost their jobs last night and got screwed over by Damian Griffiths and Dan Strachotta.”

“With empty promises that the debt will be repayed by beginning of February and a big investment will come by start of this week and that the handover will be done smoothly but in fact Dan got rid of all his Sydney staff apart from the management so that Fairwork has to pay ( which will be a shit load of effort and time for everyone of us ) for all the money Doughnut Time owes us.Outrageous.”

No one from Doughnut Time has responded to these claims yet, but we’re hoping that for the sake of their staff, they’ll begin to work towards a resolution sometime soon.
