We’ve seen all kinds of bizarre mobility scooter acts. We’ve seen a man towing a boat on one, but nothing could prepare us for this poor bloke.
An elderly Melbourne man has been seen driving a mobility scooter along the Monash Freeway, while nearby motorists follow with hazards on to protect him for oncoming traffic.
The 92-year-old was pulled over by concerned police after driving on the Monash Freeway in the city’s eastern suburbs around 3:00pm on Friday afternoon.
Police noted he’d been reported missing earlier that day.
A motorist passing by, identified as ‘Bruce’ in dash cam vision shared online, spotted the man merging into 100 km/h traffic and followed the scooter.
In the footage, Bruce is shown unsuccessfully urging the elderly male to pull over.
“Move over mate, move over, you’re not supposed to be on the freeway,” Bruce can be heard saying in the video.
The concerned driver then called triple-zero while following the scooter weaving in and out of the service lane and the busy flowing traffic.
Watch the 92-year-old scooter operator:
Bruce can be heard in the video on the phone to emergency operators. “He’s on the Monash outbound, I tried to pull him over but he told me to fuck off.”
A police car is then visible later in the video pulling the scooter rider over.
“A passing motorist spotted the 92-year-old man merging into traffic in the 100kph zone and travelled behind him with hazard lights,” a Victoria Police statement said.
“Police quickly arrived and spoke to the Glen Waverley man and determined he had been reported missing a short time earlier by family members.”
“He was taken to Glen Waverley Police Station where he was reunited with his family.”
