It is perhaps the most quintessentially Novocastrian display of gassed-ness we’ve ever witnessed. A man has been charged with attempting to tow his boat down a highway with a mobility scooter.

Shane Swancott, 35, was captured on camera towing his recently renovated 17-foot boat along the Princess Highway in Belmont before he was pulled over by Highway Patrol.

Swancott told NBN News “I lost my license and at the same time I’d finished fixing up my boat,” he said. “I was going to push it down by hand but then I thought: “why not use this?”. It is the ultimate display of Newcastle ingenuity.

Swancott was hit with a court notice on Tuesday for driving while disqualified, using an unregistered vehicle on the road, using an uninsured vehicle on the road and using an unregistered trailer on the road.

The original photo of Swancott’s misadventures has since gone viral. When asked about his fame he simply responded “I don’t even do Facebook, I don’t even own a phone. They’re saying go fund me, buy the man a car — I already own a car, I just don’t have a license.”
