Y’know, I could understand being a bit out of sorts if I was stuck in a one-bedroom flat for the duration of quarantine, but Ellen Degeneres saying that buckling down for quarantine in her mansion is “like being in jail” is a bit absurd.

Stories are popping up left and right about how celebrities have been moaning about feeling a bit isolated and bored in their multi-million dollar mansions, and it’s left us all feeling a bit bitter.

I’m currently writing this from my two-bedroom townhouse. It’s comfy, it’s cozy, and it’s plenty of room for just my husband, myself, and our adorable cat. Yeah, it’s a bit on the boring side here – we definitely don’t have a swimming pool, nor any opportunity for a home theatre or game room, but we will definitely survive being stuck inside during social distancing restrictions.

However, if I had a mansion reportedly worth $27-33 million USD, then I certainly wouldn’t have much room to complain. Well, I would have plenty of room, but that’s not the point. Point being, Ellen Degeneres has stated that quarantine in her grand home is a bit “like being in jail.”

The talk show host released the first episode of the show since being in COVID-19 quarantine as she wanted to keep her fans and crew engaged during these uncertain times.

A few minutes into the segment, she tried out her newest joke, and it didn’t go over as well as she hoped.

To be honest, though, once I heard the full quote I actually gave her a well-deserved chuckle, because she did toss up a pretty solid joke:

“Being in quarantine is like being in jail. It’s mostly because I’ve been wearing the same clothes for ten days and everyone in here is gay.”

However, fans were a bit put off, with one fan taking to Twitter to say that “people are literally dying in jail from COVID-19 while Ellen is out here making jokes about it.”

Although there has been no comment from Ellen Degeneres about her latest joke, from the back lash she’s received on Twitter, she’s likely to think twice next time.
