Parody accounts, beware. Elon Musk would like to emphasise that he attended and left the MET Gala a single pringle, thank you very much.

We might be witnessing the end of Twitter and free speech as we know it courtesy of one Elon Musk, so of course the parody accounts on the platform are doing the most to piss him off. If he decides to ban stan accounts, then so be it.

But what would make Musk come after a parody account? Speculations about his dating life, for one.

After a viral Pop Crave impersonation account alleged that model and singer-songwriter Sky Ferreira had declined a date with Musk at the MET Gala, Musk and his mother were quick to refute the claims.

“There was no team. I was with Elon. So, NO.” Maye tweeted in response to the viral tweet.

Elon chimed in and added: “I didn’t ask anyone out or request particular seating.”

He then said: “This rumour originated from a parody account, but got picked up real media and Twitter trends (sigh).”

Cut to executives at Twitter sweating buckets about the prospect of Elon banning parody accounts and Twitter trends? Maybe. Considering Elon wants to charge commercial accounts and brands for using Twitter, this might not be a stretch.

Naturally, people on Twitter had a field day, with many asking the parody account to start counting its days.

Some took this chance to remind Musk about his promises to protect free speech.

Others – mostly Ferreira’s fans – were glad to see their favourite singer getting some free promo.
