Euphoria star Jacob Elordi was the latest guest on the supremely popular talk show Hot Ones, and the Brissy boy made sure to stick up for Australia when it came to the reputation of its burgers.

Host Sean Evans noted that American restaurateur David Chang had trashed the country’s burgers during his Hot Ones appearance, calling them an “abomination” due to Aussies putting beets on them. “I think it’s only fair that we offer you our platform to respond,” Evans told Elordi and oh, how he took up that challenge.

“I think the Australians make the best burgers in the world,” Elordi said immediately and matter-of-factly. His reasoning? It’s because Aussies put absolutely everything on them.

“The burger in Australia is like eggs, bacon, avocado, then a patty, then like six cheeses, and then mayonnaise and I think that’s incredible,” he added. “I think the more the merrier on a burger.”

The only thing Elordi agreed with Chang on was the awfulness of beets. “There’s no chance that I’m doing that,” he said when Evans asked if he liked to put beets or pineapple on his burgers.

Elordi was on the talk show to promote his new film Deep Water, an erotic psychological thriller also starring Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas (interestingly the screenplay was written by Euphoria creator Sam Levinson).

When Evans asked the actor about Deep Water, he revealed that what he liked most about the film was how it harkened back to the cinema of the 1980s.

“There were like psychological thrillers in the 80s and 90s – it felt like growing up, there was one of these coming out every week,” he recalled. “Even though they weren’t the greatest films they had something iconic about them, almost something noir about them.”

Elordi continued by saying that he feels today’s cinema has pulled so far away from that era. “I feel like we’ve gone so far down another end now with everything being fantastic and large and green screened. I was excited to get back into something psychological that’s still entertaining.

Deep Water arrives on Hulu today, following several delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
