Another reward for staying so long in lockdown is on the way for NSW folk, with every adult in the state set to get a $50 “Stay and Rediscover” voucher to put towards accommodation.

The state’s Premier Dominic Perrottet announced the new bid to boost NSW’s tourism sector during COVID-19 as part of more than $500 million in investment today, October 20th, as per Sky News.

“Millions of people around the world dream of visiting Sydney and our regional areas,” Perrottet explained. “This package not only ensures they can, but that they’ll experience the best of what we have to offer. It’s also great news for people right across our state, reviving events and businesses and bringing our major draw cards back to life. Our aim is to reclaim our position as one of the world’s favourite destinations.”

Hold your horses though, because the tourism programme won’t fully begin statewide until next March. The accommodation voucher adds to the two extra $25 “Dine and Discover” vouchers that NSW residents were informed they were getting by the state government last week. Those will be valid until June 2022. At this rate, your next mini break in NSW will be basically free.

NSW and Sydney are preparing to reopen to the world soon, with international travel scheduled to be allowed for the fully vaccinated from November 1st, just two weeks from now. Over 80% of the state’s population aged 16 and over are now fully vaccinated.

“We know that the borders will open, and we want to be ahead of the curve here in NSW when it comes to ensuring that tourism comes back with a bang,” Perrottet said.
