Do you like British TV? Of course you do. Love Island may be over for another year, but BritBox has a good mix of cool new shows and reliable favourites coming from Blighty to Aussie TV screens in September.

On September 1st, female-led sitcom Hullraisers will take a comedic look at life in a less-heralded part of England: Northern town Hull (see what they did with the title?). It’s an adaptation of Haverot, a popular Israeli sitcom, and follows the lives and relationships of three women, consisting of a struggling actress, her older sister, and their police mate.

Adaptations of Israeli TV shows often do well – see Homeland and In Treatment – so Hullraisers has a lot going for it already. The series is also being created by Lucy Beaumont, a stellar standup comedian who’s made a living out of hilariously looking at life in Hull and the wider Northern England region (interestingly, her husband is 8 out of 10 Cats curmudgeon Jon Richardson).

The U.S. has all the exhilarating police procedurals, but nowhere does a relatively quaint crime drama like the Brits (hello, Midsomer Murders). The third season of one such example, McDonald & Dodds, hits BritBox on September 20th. It follows the relationship between the titular detectives, who are a classic odd couple: he’s a senior cop and shy, she’s young and enthusiastic.

Maybe nothing advertises that McDonald & Dodds is British more than the fact the series has yet to reach 10 episodes, despite being on for three seasons. There’s lots of time for these two detectives to keep the posh city of Bath safe yet.
