A Highland Park shooting victim Tweeted a picture of herself after the tragedy and ex-reporter Ann Brenoff said, “go vote.”

TRIGGER WARNING: Gun violence

The former senior writer and editor of Huffington Post, Ann Brenoff, who is now retired, just made one of her most tone-deaf statements yet under a Tweet from a Highland Park shooting victim.

The shooting victim talked about her despair in the wake of being shot at a mass shooting and knowing that nothing in America will change despite the horrific nature of the situation. Ann Brenoff jumped into the comment section to tell @h4ndcrushed to “register to vote,” and that “your generation is our last hope.” For young Democratic voters, this is the last thing they want to hear.

Many young Democratic voters have begun to realize that the Democratic party is just as reactionary as the Republican party— waiting for Republicans to roll back human rights in order to fundraise and farm votes off the resulting atrocities. Being told that our generation is our last hope is a big slap in the face coming from a member of the generation that helped get us to this point, especially when they are pinning that hope on voting for Democrats who have continuously given up opportunities to make impactful material changes in lieu of preserving “institutions,” “bipartisanship,” and “the filibuster.”

This is especially insensitive when it’s being done under a victim of a mass shooting’s Tweet about said mass shooting.

“i cant fucking believe i was in the middle of a mass shooting. ive felt safe at this parade for 18 years and today i got hit with a bullet and nothing will change in america this is ridiculous”

“I am sorry this happened to you and to everyone else there. It’s awful and these shootings just keep coming at us. Please register to vote if you haven’t already. Tell your friends too. Your generation is our last hope.”

“Vote blue and get something done to stop this. Think that won’t work? Then things get more difficult as they get redder. They want you to give up. Do not. Act. I don’t care what you think about me. Act to stop them from ignoring us.”

“telling a shooting victim to register to vote on the day of the shooting, under a picture where the blood isn’t even dried yet, is something museum worthy cringe liberalism”
