2022, it seems, is where a millennial’s childhood nostalgia is really put to the test. Iconic goofy sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was remade as a gritty drama for some reason; Buzz Lightyear is getting a very weird spinoff film. And now Nickelodeon’s odd but loveable animation The Fairly OddParents is getting a live-action sequel.

The trailer was released this week and it’s something to behold. Titled The Fairly OddParents: Fairly Odder, it’s a sequel in the loosest sense of the word: fairy godparents Cosmo and Wanda are now in the real world, with the show set to feature a mix of 2-D animation and live-action footage (think Bob Hoskins and Jessica Rabbit facing off in Who Framed Roger Rabbit).

The new show focuses not on Timmy but his cousin Viv and her step-brother Roy Raskin, so it should remain in the the original Fairly OddParents timeline, for any purists out there.

Here’s the show’s description: “In The Fairly OddParents: Fairly Odder, Ty Turner uproots his life to reunite with his high school sweetheart, Rachel Raskin, in the town of Dimmsdale, thrusting his cautious 13-year-old daughter, Viv, into a new world where she does not fit in.

Once there, Viv’s cousin, Timmy, entrusts his fairy godparents, Wanda and Cosmo, to help her adjust by taking her under their wings. Witnessing the fairy transfer take place, Viv’s charismatic new stepbrother, Roy, also inherits them, and the two siblings must take turns making wishes. Together, they learn to overcome the obstacles in their path, all with the help from their new wand-wielding and wish-granting fairy godparents.”

The world got a little odder when the original show came to an end in 2017 after 16 years and 172 episodes. Is Nickelodeon onto something with this sequel? You’ll be able to find out when all 13 episodes of season one debut on Paramount+ on March 31st.
