Fitzy and Wippa have a theory that the ‘spit gate’ debacle that went down at yesterday’s premiere of Don’t Worry Darling was all part of an elaborate prank between Harry Styles and Chris Pine.

ICYMI, the internet erupted when a video went viral that appeared to show Styles spitting in Pine’s lap at Venice Film Festival. Though Pine’s rep has since denied that Styles did spit at Pine, theories are still circulating about what actually went down between the two actors.

During this morning’s Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa radio segment, the hosts reflected on an old interviewing 2013 they did with Pine, and used it as proof that Styles was playing a prank on Pine.

“Look, I think he’s a great actor. I don’t know if he likes promoting movies, though,” Fitzy said of Pine.

Fitzy recalled the 2013 interview with Pine and co-star Zach Quinto that was conducted to promote Star Trek. “Remember as we were going into the junket, I could hear them whispering and they were talking about this wordsmith challenge. Basically, to see how many complex words that they could get into the interview to see who would be the winner,” he explained.

“You know what, it actually sounded like ‘Let’s play a game of who sounds like an entitled w*nker,’” he said of the “confusing” interview before replaying the scene.

During the interview, Pine and Quinto managed to drop elaborate words including “propinquity”, “mercurial”, “milieu”, “euphonious” and “whirling dervish”, which is a Middle Eastern ceremonial dance.

Wippa remembered, “You wanted to call them out on it at time, but at the same time, in the same moment, you’re trying to have respect for the interview.”
