As of today, your letters can get a whole lot Bert-ier, as Bert Newton is among five longstanding legends of Australian television honoured win a new series of postage stamps.
Bert Newton, Daryl Somers, Ray Martin, Denise Drysdale and Kerri-Anne Kennerley are the subjects of the stamps, which launched at a function in Melbourne yesterday, and are now in circulation.
Christine Holgate, Australia Post’s MD and CEO Christine Holgate said: “Each of these multi-award winning television personalities have made unique contributions to the Australian entertainment industry and have played a role in forming our national popular culture.
“They are consummate performers who have entertained, informed and entranced generations of Australians. Together they encompass an incredible range of remarkable talents including journalism, variety hosting, interviewing, singing, acting and comedy.”
We couldn’t agree more, although these five additions only make it clearer that what Australia really needs is an Alf Stewart stamp.
