Now this is a story all about how my life got flipped-turned upside down by the new Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reunion trailer.

This is a big one, folks. As per Billboard, the show’s superstar Will Smith dropped the first trailer for the much-anticipated Fresh Prince reunion special on Friday, November 13th.

Smith had earlier posted a teasing picture of the cast together that first whetted the appetite for a reunion. “You’re not ready for this trailer. You couldn’t be ready for this trailer!” That’s how Smith opened the trailer and what followed most definitely didn’t disappoint.

All the classic 90’s sitcoms have threatened to return recently. Seattle’s favourite pretentious psychiatrist wants to try again in love. Will & Grace returned for three more seasons in 2017. The One Everyone Wanted, Friends, seems finally set to come back in 2021 for a long-discussed reunion (anything to try and wipe our memories of the Joey spinoff).

Fresh Prince’s looks like a reunion done right though. The trailer shows most of the series regulars back on the old set: Tatyana Ali, Karyn Parsons, Joseph Marcell, Daphne Maxwell Reid, and Alfonso Ribeiro (making a grand entrance down the stairs) laugh and reminisce with Smith. DJ Jazzy Jeff even makes an appearance.

The reunion back at the Banks’ home was taped to mark the 30th anniversary of the original series’ premiere date. The chemistry immediately seems evident as it was all those years ago. “Nobody ever asked me if I could act,” Smith says, with Ribeiro hilariously interjecting, “and you couldn’t.”

The cast also revisits how taping night was always a party, with everyone grabbing a percussion instrument to hype up the crowd. They also pay a tender tribute to the late James Avery, the iconic family patriarch.

Hell, even the OG Aunt Viv, Janet Hubert seems to be returning, in what should be an interesting conversation with Smith.

The special is set to air on HBO Max on November 19th. Get ready to sing every word of that theme song again.
