If you were lucky enough to head along to Listen Out in Melbourne and Perth over the weekend, you might have been lucky enough to catch a set from Grammy-nominated US hip-hop artist Future. Sadly, the remainder of Future’s Aussie tour dates have been cancelled following an unimaginable tragedy for the artist.
Taking to Facebook today to break the news to fans, Listen Out shared the news that Future has had to cancel his remaining appearances at the festival due to the death of a close friend.
“In extremely sad news, a very close friend of Future’s has passed away and as a result he is rushing back to the US for the funeral,” the post began. “This means he won’t be able to play the remaining dates of his Aust/NZ tour.”
In addition to sharing their condolences to the artist, Listen Out also made it clear that due to the timing of this tragic event, it won’t be possible to get a similar, big-name international act to the country for the remaining dates, but that they were working on getting another artist to fill in.
Future also took to Instagram earlier today to share the news, announcing that it was his close friend Seth Firkins that passed away. Firkins, a renowned audio engineer who was known for his work with acts such as Rihanna, Gucci Mane, and Jay-Z, passed away yesterday of unknown causes.
While there is no word yet on any potential return to Australia for Future at a later date, fans in Sydney and Brisbane will still be treated to an amazing lineup that includes acts such as Bryson Tiller, Duke Dumont, SAFIA, Pnau, and Mac Miller.
