Seems like HBO is intent on making more Game Of Thrones content that no one asked for as there’s a second prequel series now in the works.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again because it’s a sentiment that’s applicable once again: Has there ever been a show that’s suffered a more dramatic decline in cultural relevance than Game Of Thrones?

The first six and a half seasons were on the forefront of pop culture for several years, but then the show just faded from everyone’s collective memory when the final couple of seasons landed with a disappointing whimper.

The reason I bring this up again is because Variety is reporting that HBO is working on a second Game Of Thrones prequel series.

Unlike the first Thrones prequel series that was meant to star Naomi Watts but was cancelled in 2019 and the Targaryen-centric House Of The Dragon series that’s penciled in for a 2022 debut, this new prequel series will be based on George R. R. Martin’s Tales Of Dunk And Egg novella series, which revolves around the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and Aegon V Targaryen (Egg) some 90 years before the events of A Song Of Ice And Fire (i.e the narrative Game Of Thrones is adapted from).

Now that’s great and all but I have just one question: Does anyone even care about Game Of Thrones enough any more to watch another prequel series?

It’s been nearly two years since Game Of Thrones ended and it doesn’t look like the franchise is undergoing any resurgence any time soon.

For what it’s worth, the Tales Of Dunk And Egg novellas are great and would be excellent source material for the show, not unlike how the main A Song Of Ice And Fire novels provided plenty of material for Game Of Thrones.

But like those A Song Of Ice And Fire novels, the Tales Of Dunk And Egg series of novellas aren’t finished yet so that means the show will have to make up an ending based of George R. R. Martin’s notes should it get to that point.

Feels a bit like deja vu doesn’t it?

Okay, I’m skipping too far ahead and making a judgement way too early. Tales Of Dunk And Egg may well be cause of a Game Of Thrones resurgence for all I know.

Let’s just wait and see what happens first as it’s going to take some time before this second prequel series becomes a reality anyway.
