The current GameStop CEO looks set to bid farewell to the company, but what does that mean for us Aussies?
Major US video game retailer GameStop is ready to shake things up a little if new rumours out of Reuters (via NME) are anything to go by.
It’s believed that the business is getting ready to give the ol’ boot to its current CEO, George Sherman, but it remains a bit of a guessing game as to who would take his spot.
The report lists three sources who claim that the “board directors are involved in the search and have spoken with potential candidates from the gaming industry, as well as the e-commerce and technology sectors.” That sounds about right considering GameStop has already made clear it wants to focus more on its online offerings.
This is the first major news to come about GameStop since it started to melt down the US stock exchange, but you may be wondering why the hell any of this is relevant. That’s because the success of the retail chain is more connected to our shores than many people might initially realise.

What does that mean for your local EB Games stores as Aussie gamers continue to hunt for a PS5 and Xbox Series X? This is especially likely after online sales spiked across the board over the last 12 months thanks to the global pandemic.
Yep, it’s certainly going to be an interesting year.
