The US Space Force have announced that they’ll now be referred to as ‘Guardians’.

Recently Marvel announced exciting news that The Guardians Of The Galaxy would be returning to our screens sooner than we thought.

Coming in the form of a holiday special due for release in the holiday season of 2022 – ahead of the franchise’s next instalment: Guardians Of The Galaxy 3, which will be released in 2023.

But Guardians Of The Galaxy aren’t trending on Twitter right now for the news of the holiday special, but rather for news that involves real life people.

Digressing back to when the US Space Force released their updated logo a few months ago, the internet was quick to jump on the fact that it appears to carry a very similar resemblance to the Star Trek Starfleet Command logo.

And it hasn’t ended there.

Now the internet are sounding off on their latest announcement, which this time appears to have a link to another outer space-oriented movie franchise.

This time being Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy ensemble.

In an official tweet from the US Space Force, they confirmed, “Today, after a yearlong process that produced hundreds of submissions and research involving space professionals and members of the general public, we can finally share with you the name by which we will be known: Guardians.”

Naturally, the Guardians Of The Galaxy writer James Gunn has something to say about this, replying to a tweet by a US reporter on the topic saying, “Can we sue this dork?”

In true Guardians Of The Galaxy comedy, Pom Klementieff who plays the role of Mantis tweeted back, “ Maybe I can make them all sleep?”

Further to that, the official Guardians Of The Galaxy account chimed in too, tweeting, “Who us?”

Any chances that those working for the US Space Force are pretty big fans of Star Trek or Guardians Of The Galaxy?
