A priest with a passion for fashion might have landed himself in hot water. Vyacheslav Baskakov aka Gucci Priest has copped criticism for flaunting his luxury items on Instagram.

The priest has shared photos of himself in an array of delicious luxury goods. He’s copped a gorgine pair of fur-lined Gucci slippers, an array of Louis Vuitton handbags and Louis Vuitton Slides.

The Russian Orthodox Church is pursuing disciplinary action against the priest. “Such actions are not acceptable. The Church requires modesty and temperance of its representatives,” shared Alexander Volkov, a spokesperson for Patriarch Kirill of Moscow.

This isn’t the first time a priest has found themselves in trouble for possessing an air of swag. Back in 2009, Patriarch Kirill stirred a bit of controversy when he wore a Breguet watch that retails for a cool $30,000.

Baskakov has since apologised for the lavish photographs. He has claimed he will “suffer penance and shut down the Instagram, since I can’t behave myself humbly and appropriately”. However, The Guardian has reported that The High Priest of Gucci didn’t own most of the items he was pictured in. Baskakov has claimed he took most of the photographs in store, and sometimes sewed expensive looking buckles onto his “modest” shoes. “So they’re inexpensive shoes, but they look festive.”
