Great news for everyone over 5’10 that has been attempting to execute any form of exercise in their tiny, mould-infested apartment — from June 13th, gyms will open across NSW.

NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard confirmed that Gyms, dance and yoga studios and indoor pools will all be allowed to reopen across the state. Classes will be capped at 10 people, with a maximum of 100 people per venue.

According to Hazzard, the demand for gyms to open again was second only to beauty salons.

“There’s a lot of people desperate to get back in there and the [Deputy Premier] and I are just desperate to get back into the gymnasiums,” he confirmed.

Fitness facilities will be required to sign in all guests in order to aid coronavirus tracing. They are also required to enforce the four-square metre rule. A win for those who want intimidating gym bros to keep their distance.

“NSW Health authorities are working with industry in each of the areas being opened to establish checklists that the industries will be able to use to give them guidance as to how they open in the safest way possible,” added Brad Hazzard.

“It won’t be exactly like it was, but it sure as heck is going to be as close as possible in a COVID-19 environment.”

In addition to gyms opening, tattoo parlours and massage parlours will also be permitted to reopen to a maximum of 10 clients at a time.

Six new coronavirus cases were reported on Thursday after more than 5400 tests. All those that tested positive are linked to travellers in hotel quarantine.

Though the majority of cases across the state have been linked to travellers, NSW Health’s Dr Jeremy McAnulty emphasised that the virus may still be prevalent across the community. “The virus is still likely circulating among people in the community who just have mild or no symptoms,” he stated in a media video update on Tuesday. “As such the risk of outbreak and resurgence of cases remains.”
