Anyone of my generation is sitting here pining for two things from Nintendo right now: a proper replacement for the Virtual Console service that brings the company’s lineup of old faves to the Switch, and an Nintendo 64 Classic that brings some of our old memories flooding back in mini form just like the SNES and NES Classic already have.

While the trademark has been filed for the latter in Japan, we still don’t have a firm date for its release, nor any idea of if or when N64 titles might be playable on the Switch through Nintendo’s online subscription service, which will for now just be offering a handful of NES titles.

So, what are we to do if we want to take our Nintendo 64 collection on the go? Why, turn to hackers, of course.

As NintendoLife reports, one hacker has now found a way to emulate the Nintendo 64 on the Switch – and do a bunch of weird stuff with it while they’re there.

Twitter user @_Mizumi has posted various vids to the platform, showing a weird mashup of Nintendo 64 classics The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Super Mario 64, as well as a blend of Pokemonn Stadium 2 and Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards.

There was even a bizarre Mario Kart 64 mod with Dragonball Z characters, but all we really want is to be able to play the original games as God (aka Shiggy) originally intended.

Okay, maybe not as they were originally intended – this time we’d be in bed too, tucked up under the covers. Gaming can’t get much better than spending all day lying in bed, playing through the original Paper Mario, can it?

Come on Nintendo, don’t make us hack our consoles – give us the portable N64 we’ve always wanted.
