Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is finally returning to Melbourne stages to entertain the city’s muggles after a long hiatus.

The production, like the rest of the theatre industry, was hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic. It was originally scheduled to run from March 18th to April 12th last year but was soon cancelled after everything shut down.

Now though, almost one year on, the show will resume at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre from Thursday night, February 25th, as per 7NEWS. It will, of course, be a COVID-safe to ensure the safety of the cast, crew, and audience members.  Masks will be mandatory and the capacity will be curtailed to satisfy government guidelines.

“Melbourne is the only place in the world staging Harry Potter and the Cursed Child right now, which is something to celebrate,” Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Martin Pakula said in a statement.

“With theatregoers coming to town to see this magical production, the city’s restaurants, bars and hotels will reap the benefits with more people out and about enjoying the very best of Melbourne.”

Melbourne became incredibly just the third city in the world to host the production in 2019, following London and New York. And Australian audiences didn’t make this a poor decision: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child broke theatre records in the country in just its first year, drawing in 320,000 fans, making it the most successful play in the country’s history.

For those who don’t know, the play takes place 19 years after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Ol’ Harry is now Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement at the Ministry of Magic while his younger song, Albus Severus Potter, is due to start at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Tickets can now be bought online and bookings can be made until August.
