Disney has just released its slate of upcoming movies up until 2028 and it looks like the next Star Wars film won’t be coming out for a while.

Disney has just released their full movie slate for the next six years and the Star Wars selection is looking sparse. The next Star Wars film isn’t listed to release until 2025.

“Take a peek at Disney’s updated release calendar through 2028”

One missing part of the schedule that people immediately caught onto was the omission of Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron film. The film was originally set to release on December 22nd, 2023 but now appears to be missing from the schedule entirely.

The 2025 SW film is currently untitled, so it is possible that Rogue Squadron was pushed back to this date. It is also possible that it was removed ahead of a complete scrapping of the project similar to David Benioff and Dan Weiss’ Star Wars project being cancelled after the eighth season of Game of Thrones was released.

“Disney has removed the release date for Patty Jenkins’ #RogueSquadron from their calendar”

Possible films that could be filling the 2025 Star Wars slot include Star Wars: The Acolyte, Taika Waititi’s untitled Star Wars film, and a The Mandalorian movie finale. The latter two of which are detailed below.

“Taika Waititi says his #StarWars movie will explore the universe and won’t rely on characters from the Skywalker Saga

“I think for the Star Wars universe to expand, it has to expand … otherwise it feels like it’s a very small story”

(via @totalfilm)”

“I don’t think that I’m any use in the Star Wars universe making a film where everyone’s like, ‘Oh great, well that’s the blueprints to the Millennium Falcon, ah that’s Chewbacca’s grandmother”

“Taika Waititi is ‘still writing’ his #StarWars film “I’m still coming up with the ideas and story-lining it and just wanted to make sure that it feels like a Star Wars film”

(via @screenrant)”

“I could say, “we’ll just write any old thing and set in space and then put Star Wars on the front.” But it wouldn’t be a Star Wars film without certain elements and a certain treatment .. I’ve just got to make sure that it stays within that wheelhouse”

“Taika Waititi on moving away from the Skywalker Saga with his #StarWars film

“I don’t want to mess with something that’s so treasured … there are thousands of books [about] Star Wars with all those characters. I just don’t have time to get through them”

(via @RollingStone)”

“I’m not promising that I’m not going to do anything like that. I’m just saying: It’d be easier for me to not do that. Would you like to see a Jar Jar Binks movie?”

“Pedro Pascal & Rick Famuyiwa have addressed if #TheMandalorian will conclude with a movie:

Pascal: “I’ll answer for him… Yes, he wants to, and that’s a great idea, and if it isn’t a conversation already, then it will be after today…” Full quote: thedirect.com/article/pedro-
