After months of rumours and intrigue, House of the Dragon is just one week away from its hotly-anticipated premiere.
The Game of Thrones prequel is set 200 years before the events of that iconic series and follows the House Targaryen as they become involved in a bitter civil war. House of the Dragon is based on another George R.R. Martin book, 2018’s Fire & Blood.
Consisting of 10 episodes, former Doctor Who Matt Smith leads a stellar cast alongside the likes of Paddy Considine, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, and Rhys Ifans. Don’t worry though, legacy-ruining GoT duo David Benioff and D.B. Weiss aren’t in charge of proceedings this time, with Ryan J. Condal and Miguel Sapochnik acting as show runners instead (the latter rightfully won an Emmy for directing the utter classic GoT episode ‘Battle of the Bastards’).
The first season of the prequel series is also set to feature a lot of dragons, with 9 of the legendary creatures rising to 17 throughout the rest of the series. “Each new dragon has its own personality,” Sapochnik recently said. “That’s what’s going on now in our last part of the animation – we’re applying personal character traits to each of the dragons. One of them’s got a [bad] leg. Another one’s much more like an eagle, because she’s kind of neurotic. And another one’s like a curmudgeonly old granny.”
House of the Dragon premieres next Monday, August 22nd on Binge and for a welcome change, Aussie viewers will get to see it concurrently with the Northern Hemisphere. The series will also be shown on Foxtel in Australia, but you’ll of course have to have a subscription to one of the streaming platforms to find out how the Targaryens are doing.
That’s why it’s helpful that Binge is currently offering a 14-day free trial for new customers, and Foxtel Now also has a 10-day free trial on offer. After the first episode debuts next Monday, the next nine episodes of House of the Dragon will then hit the streaming platforms weekly on the same day.
