Hinge is adding audio clips to user profiles, because we all know what’s truly sexy is a well-delivered voice note.

The dating app has decided to add new audio features from this week onwards. As per The Verge, starting worldwide on Wednesday, November 3rd, users can answer the ‘getting to know you’ prompts on their profile with audio for a change. They’ll also be able to exchange voice clips with matches in chat. I mean, this sounds great and all, but it would really have been more useful during lockdown.

Hinge are following the example of rival dating apps like Bumble and Happn, who have previously added voice notes. It makes sense too, with someone’s voice playing a huge part in attraction. And being a Scot abroad, 90% of my dating life relies on my thick accent, so Hinge doing this is honestly a godsend.

From Wednesday, it couldn’t be simpler to start making the most of these new voice prompts. Just make sure your Hinge app is updated, then head to Settings > Edit Profile > Voice Prompt. You can then record a voice note for any of the usual question prompts: instead of typing out that hilarious but embarrassing worst date story, deliver it instead like a seasoned stand-up comic. That’ll really impress any potential date.

“Hinge wants to help people get to know you as soon as they see your profile. If a picture is worth 1,000 words, imagine how many your voice is,” Hinge’s chief product officer Michelle Parsons said about the new voice additions. “With the introduction of Voice Prompts, we’re adding more authenticity to the profile experience, allowing users to fully display their personality in a new way.”
