Earlier this month it was revealed that Maccy D’s were suing Hungry Jack’s over the joint’s latest Big Jack burger.
A federal court lawsuit was filed, alleging that Hungry Jack’s “deliberately adopted or imitated” the “distinctive appearance or build” of the McDonald’s’ cult classic Big Mac burger.
In addition to essentially replicating (and elevating) the Big Mac. The chain has been accused of ganking the Big Mac tagline, “two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions – on a sesame seed bun,” that has been used to promote the burger since 1974.
Hungry Jack’s Big Jack burger has been promoted online as “two flame-grilled 100% Aussie beef patties, topped with melted cheese, special sauce, fresh lettuce, pickles and onions on a toasted sesame seed bun,”.
Talent borrows. Genius Steals! toots. This is showbiz.
Hungry Jack’s have since responded to the lawsuit, in the most deliciously petty way. Last week, the fast-food restaurant shared a new advertisement for their Big Jack burger, which features an oblique reference to the ongoing lawsuit.
“Someone’s suing Hungry Jack’s,” the ad reads. “They reckon Aussie’s are confusing the Big Jack with some American burger… but the Big Jack’s clearly bigger, with 25% more Aussie beef, flame-grilled, with a barbecue taste, and you can only get the Big Jack at Hungry Jack’s.”

“The Big Jack has 25% more Australian beef. Aussies know you can’t get smaller pan fried American burgers at our restaurants. We flame grill our beef and that’s why the burgers are better at Hungry Jack’s,” said a spokesperson for Hungry Jack’s shared.
“The Big Jack is flame grilled and only available at Hungry Jack’s restaurants.”
