Swedish furniture brand Ikea is entering new territory again with a new collection of lifestyle products: SPÄNST.

A collaboration between the brand, fashion designer Chris Stamp, and freelance designer Maja Ganszyniec, the collection is inspired by street fashion and includes Ikea’s first skateboard.

SPÄNST sees the brand focussing on aesthetic and “artistry” more than ever. The idea behind this collection being “a way for you to uncover your lifestyle” and take pride in exhibiting that.

The collection features accessories, furniture and “items for storing, displaying and organising some of your favourites at home.” which definitely sounds like more furniture.

On the new collaboration, Chris Stamp says “Fashion and furniture are different animals but the creative process is similar. Design no matter the medium is always about finding the right solution to a challenge. Feeling inspired by the environment around me and my team is an essential part of my creative process.”

The limited collection is heavily influenced by LA skater culture. As well as the first Ikea Skateboard, SPÄNST Includes hats, tees, and hoodies. Making Ikea the one stop shop for any budding skater.

“With this collection I’ve learnt that it’s worth pushing the limits. We went for solutions that we believed to be strong and bold, or else it wasn’t worth it.” says Maja Ganszyniec of SPÄNST.

Chris Stamp’s favourite product from the collection is the unusual “LED light stick” which has it’s own promo video. The light sticks are impractical but definitely fit the collection’s “cool” Instagram friendly vibes.

Ikea has also recently unveiled new audio products, as well as LURVIG – a collection of products for animals.

You’ll be able to purchase your very own light sticks and Ikea skateboards on May 1st. Until then you can see more of the SPÄNST collection here.
