Ingham’s have been forced to recall a number of their gluten-free chicken schnitzels after it was discovered they do in fact contain gluten.
There’s a rather famous old joke that asks, “What’s worse than biting into an apple and finding a worm? Finding half a worm.”
Of course, this is a rather outlandish, humorous scenario which pokes fun at the unexpected inclusion of foreign foodstuffs in an otherwise harmless item.
However, it seems that no one is laughing over Ingham’s’ recent product recall which has seen their gluten-free schnitzels recalled for including something it explicitly says it doesn’t contain.
Taking to their website earlier today, Ingham’s issued a product recall for their Gluten Free Chicken Schnitzel products due to the presence of gluten in the item.
The offending schnitzels are those sold in the 440g variety, feature a best before date of April 8th, and were purchased at Victorian Woolworths stores from March 29th until April 1st.
While the sheer prospect of a gluten-free product testing positive for gluten sounds like a pretty obvious misstep, it seems the product actually lies within the labelling process rather than manufacturing.

According to the company, their “Southern Style Tenders were packaged incorrectly in Gluten Free Schnitzel labelled tray,” resulting in the presence of the undeclared allergen.
Those who may have an allergy towards gluten, or otherwise avoid it, are advised not to consume this product, but rather return it for a full cash refund from the place of purchase.
