Producer for all five Daniel Craig James Bond films, Barbara Broccoli, weighs in on when the next Bond actor might be coming.
In a brief conversation with Variety, James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli weighed in on when we can expect the next James Bond actor to be cast and how she is still appreciating Daniel Craig’s portrayal. Variety also gave a shortlist of “whispered” about actors who may be in talks to fill the shoes.
Tom Hardy, Henry Cavill, Idris Elba and even “Euphoria” star Jacob Elordi have been whispered about in relation to the coveted role, and Lashana Lynch became the first woman to hold the 007 title when her role of Nomi took over Bond’s position in the last film.
But Bond franchise producer Barbara Broccoli says “it’s going to take some time” before Craig’s replacement is named.
“It’s a big decision,” Broccoli told Variety at the Longacre Theatre on Thursday at the opening night of “Macbeth” on Broadway, which she is producing and in which Craig is also starring. “It’s not just casting a role. It’s about a whole rethink about where we’re going. I’m just here celebrating one of the greatest actors on the planet, Daniel Craig.”
While Idris Elba is on this list, he may not think he’s right for the role himself. While that’s not to say that he wouldn’t take such a life-changing role, he did mention that he thinks he is getting too old to star as Bond over an extended duration of time.
When he was asked once more about the opportunity to play 007, Elba explained: “I am 50 this year. Let’s say you sign up for three films — no one wants to see Bond giving chase or beating up guys when he is 60. I am probably too old to take on the role now.”

While we still think he would be amazing for the role of the titular Bond, Elba has said he would still love to appear in a Bond movie in some way or another.
He also told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “If there was a chance to be involved and the role was right for me, why not? It would be incredible to be a Bond villain.”
Bond franchise producer Barbara Broccoli has previously given her opinion on whether Elba would make a good Bond, and his chances could still be good.
“We know Idris … he’s a magnificent actor,” Broccoli told Deadline’s Crew Call podcast. She also noted that Elba has “been part of the conversation, but it’s always difficult to have a conversation when you have somebody else in the seat.”
