James Gunn recently Tweeted about his experience with Pete Davidson in response to the latest events in Davidson’s beef with Kanye West.

James Gunn, director of Guardians of the GalaxyThe Suicide Squad, and Peacemaker, has recently talked about his experience with Pete Davidson. Gunn and Davidson worked together on the set of 2021’s The Suicide Squad, where Pete Davidson played the marksman character Blackguard.

The timing of Gunn’s Tweets come right after Kanye West’s music video for his song ‘Eazy,’ which features a claymation depiction of West kidnapping Pete, holding his decapitated head, and planting him in the ground with roses that eventually grow from his face. This comes in a long series of events that Pete Davidson has remained mostly quiet on.

To back him up, Gunn Tweeted about his experience with Davidson’s character and the various aspects that make him an enjoyable person for Gunn to work with and be around.

For the record, Pete Davidson is one of the nicest, sweetest guys I know. A truly generous, tender & funny spirit, he treats everyone around him with respect.

@SaulLeoTorres responded that although James may know Pete in person, he might not truly understand every aspect of his character. Gunn’s response pointed out that he has a large amount of experience with Pete in different situations and is confident that Pete treats people with respect.
“No shit. But I’ve been on set with Pete & I see how he treats all of the crew & background actors. I’ve been to restaurants & see how he treats the staff. I’ve seen how he treats his longtime friends. I’ve seen how he treats fans.”

Here, Gunn responds to a now-deleted Tweet which was presumably attributing aspects of Davidson’s on-screen characters to his character in real life.

“That’s called a movie. He was a character.”
