Over the last ten years, Jay Pharoah has cemented himself as an essential figure in modern comedy. From constantly blowing away Saturday Night Live fans with spot-on impressions and to carving his own path as a side-splitting stand-up, pop culture lovers have since flocked to Pharoah’s throne of hilarity.
Now, the comic has announced his first ever solo stand up tour of Australia for May 2019 as part of Sydney Comedy Festival, in which he’ll also be playing a slew of solo shows in Melbourne.
The Virginia native will perform two shows at Sydney’s Factory Theatre as part of the festival on the 16th and 17th of May, followed by two shows at Melbourne’s only dedicated comedy venue The Comic’s Lounge on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 May.
Over the last few years, Jay has taken his talents across the US, UK, Canada and Europe, with a show full of high-energy pastiche of stories, characters and SNL-level jokes – it’s fair to say any self-respecting comedy fan will find themselves at the helm of Pharoah’s ridiculously accurate Kanye impression this May.
If you’re unfamiliar with his work on SNL or stand-up, Pharoah has graced the screens with appearances in films like Get a Job alongside Bryan Cranston, Chris Rock’s Top Five, Ride Along with Kevin Hart and Ice Cube, as well as TV shows like Family Guy, BoJack Horseman, Robot Chicken and SuperMansion.
Tickets for the shows are available on pre-sale now and are on general sale from 1pm AEDT tomorrow.
