Time to kiss under the … “camel-toe”? Queen of hilarity Jennifer Coolidge has gifted us all a hilarious and boozy rendition of Twas the Night Before Christmas. We do not deserve her.

Coolidge wonderfully opens the short Netflix clip with “My great-grandfather used to read this to me when I was a little child on Christmas Eve. Now he’s dead”. The shocked and abrupt laugh I let out clued me in on the fact that this would be no typical reading. No, this was art. A masterpiece.

Let’s face it: 2021 wasn’t great. It wasn’t much better than 2020, and we’re still in the middle of a global pandemic, no matter what some people might say. This video has been a wonderful way to close off the shitty year with something a little bit lighter. Some optimism to sprinkle into 2022 with.

There have been many readings of the famous Christmas poem, such as Simon Cowell, Bob Dylan and Stephen Fry, but none hold the gravitas that Jennifer Coolidge has.

The video comes from Netflix’s YouTube channel in honour of her new holiday movie Single All the Way, co-starring Michael Urie.

The rendition of the well known poem is filled with so much accented goodness, with Coolidge breaking from the reading to take a sip of eggnog and snack on the cookies next to her. When she got to the part in the story where Santa came down the chimney “dressed in all fur”, she hilariously noted that his fashion choice was “no longer socially acceptable”.

Please, if you do nothing else this week, watch this clip.
