The Jetsons, the futuristic TV family whose existence shaped countless childhoods, are set to return to our screens next year by way of a live-action remake.

As TVLine reports, US network ABC has ordered a pilot of the prospective new series to be produced. With executive producers Robert Zemeckis (Back To The Future, Forrest Gump), and Jack Rapke (Cast Away), and veteran comedy writer Gary Janetti (Will & GraceFamily Guy) on board, it looks to be a formula that can’t fail at this point.

Hanna-Barbera’s The Jetsons first premiered on TV back in 1962 and was set in the far-off time of 2062. Since then, plenty of the ‘futuristic’ predictions from the show have come and gone, making a rewatching of the original series and intriguing experience. The revival series from the mid ’80s was less popular, but still managed to capture the essence of science fiction and comedy that the original series brought forth.

Of course, the new series is also going to be set 100 years in the future, so it looks as though we’ll be getting plenty of predictions for 2118 thrown our way when we tune in. The live-action version is set to take on more of a multi-camera sitcom feel, and will undoubtedly be a little bit more relevant to today’s audiences.

While we’re yet to get any hint as to what the cast will look like, we can be pretty sure that with veteran media personalities such as Robert Zemeckis on board, it is set to be a pretty faithful remake and will feature a cast that we’re bound to love.

At this stage though, we’re just going to have to sit and wait for more details about The Jestons revival to come our way, but needless to say, we’re pretty excited for this one.
