Never in my wildest imagination could I concoct a feud so random. For some reason actor and comedian, Jim Carrey is beefing with the granddaughter of late Italian fascist dictator Benito Mussolini.

The beef can be traced back to an illustration Carey had drawn of Benito Mussolini and his mistress Claretta Petacci. The drawing depicted the two hanging upside down, a reference to their execution. He captioned the illustration, “If you’re wondering what fascism leads to, just ask Benito Mussolini and his mistress Claretta Petacci.”

Benito and Claretta were captured by partisans whilst travelling with the Italian Social Republic. The pair were executed in Mezzegra and their bodies were taken to the Piazzale Loreto in Milan were they were hung upside down in front of a petrol station.

Naturally, Alessandra Mussolini, granddaughter of Benito, Member of the European Parliament and noted Trump supporter did not take too kindly to Carrey’s illustration. “You are a bastard,” she wrote to Carrey.

“President @realDonaldTrump doesn’t have to worry about poor @JimCarreypolitica attacks;” she continued. “His drawings are only dirty paper.”

The politician then continued to challenge Carrey by highlighting a series of historical events like the atomic bombing by US forces and Rosa Park’s civil rights protest.

Alessandra is the daughter of Romano Mussolini, the fourth son of Benito Mussolini. As a teenager, she pursued acting and modelling. As SBS notes, she was mentored by her aunt Sophia Loren. Loren’s sister Maria married Alessandra’s father Romano.

In 1992 Alessandra Mussolini entered politics.
