“Pay back Carole Baskin so I can get my life back,” it’s pointedly titled. It was set up by his lawyer John M. Phillips, in order to help cover recent legal fees Exotic has racked up battling his one true nemesis Baskin. That’s why he’s asking for a hefty sum of $500,000. At the time of writing, he’s raised $100 from 11 donations, so there’s a long, long way to go.
“Joe Exotic is asking for (you to) help him “pay that b- Carole Baskin back,” Phillips tweeted with a link to the GoFundMe. “Want to help? If you enjoyed Tiger King or had some Joe Exotic fun, please donate, share. Joe will connect with some donors when he can.” It must be said that “had some Joe Exotic fun” is something I wish I’d never had to write.
A lengthy statement on the GoFundMe page explains that Exotic still owes $1 million to Baskin’s Big Cat Rescue from her trademark infringement lawsuit. “I will walk out of prison with the clothes on my back, a $1 million judgment against me and no home or clothes,” Exotic says. “My health is deteriorating, and I was recently diagnosed with cancer and prison has not been kind.” “Simply put, I cannot get a fresh start until I pay @$&#!%! Carole Baskin back,” he adds.
The GoFundMe page insists that all raised money will be placed in a trust account and that neither Exotic or Phillips will be taking a cent of it. Check out the GoFundMe page to read more about Exotic’s cause.
