YouTube personality and children’s entertainer JoJo Siwa has announced she has split from her girlfriend of nine months, Kylie Prew.
Speaking on Paris Hilton’s This Is Paris podcast (via news.com.au), the 18-year-old described Prew as the “right person, wrong time”.
“I have yet to talk about this officially, publicly, but we broke up… but she is literally still my best friend. I talked to her yesterday, she just got a new puppy. She’s awesome. She’s having the time of her life, I’m having the time of my life,” she said.
She continued: “I’m really lucky that I didn’t lose her completely because, you know, even though relationships end, friendships don’t have to end.”
“I was very happy that it can be, because that’s all I wanted. But I’m really happy that I remember all the fun times, all the good times, and nothing bad happened, it just is the definition of a cheesy saying of ‘right person, wrong time’ and I hate cheesy sayings, but they’re true.”
The pair first met on a cruise ship in December 2019 and started dating just over a year later.
Siwa came out in January via an Instagram live video, following speculation about her sexuality from fans after she posted a picture of herself wearing a shirt with the words: “Best. Gay. Cousin. Ever”.

From there, she revealed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in February that it was Prew who had encouraged her to come out publicly.
“I do have the most amazing, wonderful, perfect, most beautiful girlfriend in the whole world,” she said.
“One day I was on FaceTime with my girlfriend … And I was like, ‘I kind of just want to post this picture on my (Instagram) Story.'”
“She was super encouraging, she was like, ‘do it’ and I was like, ‘all right’ and I did it.”
Siwa, who first came to fame as a child on the reality TV series Dance Moms, is currently competing on Dancing With the Stars US with a female partner, Jenna Johnson. The duo is the show’s first-ever same-sex couple in the US.
