The vest worn by Kanye West at the second DONDA listening event in Atlanta, Georgia has auctioned off for $20,000.

You’ll recall the vest. It was black, heavy-duty, bared the name DONDA in white block capitals.

So what’s the story behind the vest being sold?

Well, turns out it fell into the hands of Justin Reed, owner of an LA-based consignment store.

As the story goes, West ended up gifting the vest to a security guard on the night. And Reed decided he was going to make a deal with the security guard, as he wanted it for his store.

Reed told GQ that he got in touch with the security guard, he at first was pretty apprehensive to let the vest go, but eventually he did.

He said, “I got on the phone with him, and he was telling me the full story of how flew into Atlanta with a rapper he works with and how he was at the event for a week or so. At first, he was pretty hesitant to send the vest to me here in Los Angeles. I understood it; he doesn’t know me.”

Reed ended up sending a New York-based employee to collect the vest in person along with a cash payout. Before he knew it, the vest was with him in LA.

As for how to price the vest, Reed said that he was unsure of what it could go for and that he was initially thinking $10,000.

He said,  “I was originally going to price it for around $10,000. Maybe a bit more.”

But that was before he took photos of the vest which got shared around on social media. And this sent Instagram and other socials into a frenzy. That’s when he knew that he could get more than $10,000 for it.

Before he went to the market with the vest, he decided to double its price listing, reaching for $20,000. And boom. The vest sold to a proud New Yorker.
