A while ago, we spoke about how Kanye West and Jay-Z have had a very public falling out, with many criticising Kanye’s treatment of Jay-Z and his music streaming platform TIDAL. With one fan in the middle of suing Kanye, Jay-Z, and TIDAL for broken promises in regards to Kanye’s latest album, it appears that his defence is coming from one of the most unexpected places; his Twitter account.

When Kanye West’s The Life Of Pablo was released in February of last year, fans were ecstatic at the prospect of new material from Yeezy. The album was originally released on Jay-Z’s music service TIDAL, with promotional media even referring to the fact that the album was a TIDAL-exclusive.

At the time, Kanye even famously Tweeted that “My album will never never never be on Apple. And it will never be for sale… You can only get it on Tidal.” Of course, this proved untrue, and soon after, the record was found on Spotify and Apple Music, among other places. In April of last year, a fan took Kanye, Jay-Z, and TIDAL to task, and lodged a lawsuit in which it was claimed that the record was falsely advertised, stating that it was a ploy to get subscribers to sign up to TIDAL.

Now, as The Fader reports, Kanye West has dipped into his now-deleted Twitter account to try and make a defence. Kanye has pointed toward a Tweet in which he stated that The Life Of Pablo is a “living breathing changing creative expression,” meaning that he should not be held accountable as the lawsuit requests.

If you remember, The Life Of Pablo went through several revisions upon its release, in which Kanye revised, edited, and replaced songs on the final album. Kanye’s defence effectively lies within the fact that since the album is a living, breathing, changing experience, the version that was released on TIDAL was exclusive to the service, with other, different versions of the album being released through other services.

At this stage though, it’s up to the judge, but frankly, it just sounds as though Kanye is splitting hairs. Regardless, we’ll keep you updated if anything further comes to light in this case.
