Karl Stefanovic has been left red-faced and in a fit of giggles after a butcher used the term “shrinkage” during an interview on the Today Show.
Stefanovic and co-host Sarah Abo interviewed a butcher today who is running a store which employs no staff. During the interview Karl asked him if he’d experienced any problems with theft.
“We’ve had absolutely zero theft here in almost two years of trading,” he said, adding: “you can let yourself in 24/7 and there’s cameras under surveillance. And in two years, we’ve had zero shrinkage.
It was the word shrinkage that left Stefanovic in a fit of giggles. Picking up on why he was laughing, Abo quipped, “Zero shrinkage… that’s handy.”
Hosts on the rival breakfast news program Sunrise had a similar experience earlier this month, with stand in host Edwina Bartholomew breaking into laughter while presenting a segement about birds.
Edwina was presenting the show alongside Mark Beretta, while regular hosts Nat Barr and Kochie are on holidays, and spoke to Sunrise bird expert Dr Grainne Cleary. During the segment, footage of birds mating in the wild played on TV.
“Grainne, I’ve noticed our bird content has risen exponentially since we found you, and we’re all the more grateful for it,” Edwina said with a laugh. “Thank you so much for coming on this morning.

She added, “And apologies to viewers who had to explain that vision to their children who are watching this morning!”
Mark explained what had happened to a confused Dr Clearly.
“While you were speaking we had great matchmaking moments of birds around the world on the screen. It was a nature experience this morning,” he said.
“Those eagles really were getting on well,” Eddy added.
“The ibises surprised me!” Mark joked, to which Eddy replied, “They always do, Beretts!”
