Kate Langbroek has recently made a public statement apologizing to her former radio co-host Hughesy, after making comments on The Project that suggested a falling out between the two. The radio duo had worked together for 18 years on the show Hughesy & Kate at KIIS FM.

Langbroek revealed on The Project that she discovered in 2016 that Hughesy, real name David Hughes, was earning 40% more than her for years during their time on the show, causing a change in their relationship and ultimately leading to her departure from the role.

“We did a radio show together for 18 years … It changed our relationship when we talked about money and I then left,” Langbroek said on The Project.

“Apart from my husband he was the most significant man in my life. And it has been like a marriage, and now like a divorce.”

However, Langbroek has since clarified that “important” details were left out during the segment, including that Hughes was “mortified” when he found out she was earning less and even offered to take a pay cut.

In an Instagram post, Langbroek shared a selfie of the two having a heart-to-heart, revealing that Hughes had been left “hurt” by her remarks on the current affairs program and that she felt compelled to clarify all the facts.

Because of time constraints, and not having planned what I was going to say, some important things didn’t get said by me: that this was when we were doing drive on KIIS; three years before I left to live in Italy.”

“Nor did I explain that when he found out, Hughesy was mortified – properly shocked – and immediately sought to rectify the situation.

“He also vowed that from that point on, we would always negotiate together on the show we had built together, and we did, the following year, when we moved to SCA. Knowing that we could speak freely about our negotiations, and that we were treated as true equals at our new radio network was the best.”

Langbroek finished of the post by saying that she’s “mortified” that news stories have hinted that she and Hughes are estranged over the pay disparity.

“The fact is, I am not estranged from David William Hughes. I never have been; not even when we have been apart. And I don’t think I ever could be. We have created great times, and navigated terrible times, where he did not falter. I know him. I adore him,” she wrote.
