Kate Ritchie will be joining the Fitzy and Wippa show on Monday, for the newly renamed Fitzy and Wippa with Kate Ritchie

Ritchie shared the news live on air on the Fitzy and Wippa show this morning and said she was excited to join the men on the popular radio show.

“It is so nice to be here, it’s been a long time and I’m excited to be back in the studio making radio,” she said.

“A bit of time off has made me realise I love doing a bit of broadcasting, and I’m now looking forward to doing it with you guys.”

The former Home and Away star reiterated her excitement in a statement released by Nova. “I’m a huge fan of the show and I’ve been great mates with the boys for years,” she said. “The past eight years on drive has been an important part of my life, but I’m thrilled to take on this new challenge by returning to breakfast radio in my hometown. I can’t wait to wake up Sydneysiders beside two of the industry’s much-loved breakfast announcers.”

‘Fitzy’ and ‘Wippa’ mirrored Ritchie’s excitement in a statement.

“We’ve been annoying Kate around the office for 10 years, now we get to do it every morning. We are excited for our audience to hear how funny Kate thinks we are. Nova listeners have always loved Kate and now she’ll be served up every weekday. Please enjoy your breakfast,” they said.

The news comes just a day after it was announced that Australia Idol host Ricki Lee Coulter will be replacing Ritchie on her former show Kate, Tim & Joel drive show.

In October, Ritchie revealed that she would be stepping away from the drive show, but said she would return in 2023.

“This past year has been incredibly hectic and full-on for both me and my family,” she said. “I have had much change and increased stress in my life, like many of you, in a short space of time. And it has taken its toll,” she said in a statement.

It continued, “And as you may have guessed, I invest a lot of emotional energy into everything I do, my work, and my family especially, and the last few months I have been working on radio, I’ve been returning to TV, and in my spare time, I even wrote a children’s book.”

She concluded: “Nova has been fabulous and understanding, so thank you Nova, and thank you Tim, Joel and the team, and most importantly, thank you to all of our fabulous listeners. I really mean that.”
