Keanu Reeves has stated that he has never played Cyberpunk 2077, despite CD Projekt Red last year stating that he did and he “loves it”.
During a recent interview with The Verge that Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss did for The Matrix Awakens experience, he simply stated that he does not play video games. When asked to elaborate and reveal whether he has played Cyberpunk 2077, where he stars as Johnny Silverhand, he said: “I’ve seen demonstrations but I’ve never played it.”
This came after a statement from CD Projekt Red CEO Adam Kiciński last year, where he told investors: “Yes. Yes. He’s played the game … and he loves it.”
The investors that Kiciński was speaking to have since sued the gaming company for the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, and it is reported that the developer is currently looking to settle a lawsuit with investors.
One of the many lawsuits against the developer emphasised how the game was “virtually unplayable on the current-generation Xbox or PlayStation systems due to an enormous number of bugs.”
What this lawsuit may focus on in light of Reeves’ statement will be the “defendants’ statements about its business, operations, and prospects, were materially false and misleading and/or lacked a reasonable basis at all relevant times.”

Knowing that Reeves has not actually played the game, despite Kiciński’s claims, investors would be particularly interested when talking to CD Projekt Red amidst these negotiations. Exact details of Kiciński’s and Reeves’ statements in the lawsuit are unknown, however. There are no details on what Kiciński was told before his statement to investers, and there isn’t a lot of insight as to what Reeves considers playing the game to be (he may have engaged with demos before the game was released to the public).
No matter what the situation may be, this statement doesn’t exactly look good for CD Projekt Red.
