Kendrick Lamar seems to be able to do no wrong at the moment, topping huge musical democracies and releasing reversed versions of his award-winning records, but his appearance at the 2018 BRIT Awards has fans shaking their heads in confusion.

The 2018 BRIT Awards recently wrapped up, and in addition to a number of big name artists receiving awards, it also featured some rather intriguing performances. The most notable of which happened to come from Kendrick Lamar, who also took home the award for International Male Solo Artist during the evening.

Appearing on top of a glass box, Kendrick Lamar kicked off the performance with a version of his 2017 track ‘FEEL.’. Soon though, the screen behind him showed the words “This Is Another Satire by Kendrick Lamar,” echoing his Grammy Awards performance last month.

However, fans started getting a bit confused when Lamar dipped into his next track, a cover of Rich The Kid’s ‘New Freezer’, on which Kendrick usually performs a guest verse. Rich The Kid did appear onstage in a non-musical capacity though, smashing the car contained within the box. (Some folks online have confirmed that the car was a USD $400,000 Lamborghini Murciélago, but we’re hoping against hope that it was just a realistic prop.)

Of course, the Internet is having a field day with the performance, trying to work out what exactly the intended satire was, and what exactly smashing a luxury car had to do with it.

One Reddit user did offer a theory into what the performance meant, explaining that Lamar chose to adopt his persona of Kung-Fu Kenny during the second song in order to continue the reportedly satirical themes offered in 2017’s DAMN..

“Kung-Fu Kenny is the satire,” Reddit user mAAd-Professor explained. “The song ‘FEEL.’ is a K. Dot song. I’ve explained this before but even at the award show you notice that Kendrick is outside of the box (this has multiple meanings so think about it) and is rapping with all BLUE lights.”

“When the “This is another satire by Kendrick Lamar” screen appears, it’s before ‘New Freezer’ plays and Kendrick changes into Kung-Fu Kenny,” he continues. “Any performance Kung-Fu Kenny does IS a satire because he himself is a satire.”

While we can’t really say for sure what Kendrick Lamar’s performance was trying to say, we’re certain that there’s a method to his madness and that you can probably work out what it means if you look hard enough.
