One of the biggest names in contemporary hip hop will headline the opening night of Bluesfest 2016.
The man who wascrowned the new king of the West Coast by Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre will return to Australian shores for the first time since he supported Eminem on hisRapturetour in February 2014.
Lamar joins the already announced acts for the 2016 incarnation of the festival, which include Tom Jones, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Jackson Browne, The Decemberists, Jason Isbell, Sturgill Simpson, Tweedy, Steve Earle & The Dukes, The Wailers (performing four albums in entirety;Exodus, Survival, UprisingandLegendover four nights), Grace Potter, Lord Huron, Nahko And Medicine For The People, Vintage Trouble, Lucky Peterson, Emdee, Blackberry Smoke, The National, City and Colour, UB40 featuring Ali Campbell, Astro and Mickey Virtue, Joe Bonamassa,Tedeschi Trucks Band, The Cat Empire, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, The Word, Rhiannon Giddens, Janiva Magness, St Paul & The Broken Bones, Allen Stone, The Selecter, Shakey Graves and Songhoy Blues.
Furthermore, he will perform his first Sydney headline show since 2012 when he touredon the back of Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City.
Bluesfest 2016will take place from Thursday March 24 until Monday March 28, just north of Byron Bay. He’ll also play atAllphones Arena onWednesday March 23.
