Kevin Bacon has added some star power to the viral ‘It’s Corn’ phenomenon, picking up his guitar for a… corny… rendition of the song.

In a video posted to Instagram, the actor performed an acoustic cover of the song, soulfully singing the annoyingly catchy lyrics while strumming his guitar with a corn on the cob.

Bacon finishes the song taking a bite of the corn, saying, “It’s corn.”

The ‘It’s Corn’ phenomenon began with web channel Recess Therapy interviewing a kid called Tariq about his favourite food.

The interview contained many meme-worthy quips from the six-year-old.

Soon enough, The Gregory Brothers’ Songify This made Tariq go even more viral by turning his interview into a catchy song.

The meme-making quips have soundtracked over 400,000 TikTok videos. The official music video, released last Sunday, has already had over 2.1 million views on YouTube.

Watch the official ‘It’s Corn’ music video:

“For me I really like corn,” Tariq says in the video.

“What do you like about corn?” host Julian Shapiro-Barnum asks.

“It’s corn! A big lump with knobs… it has the juice,” Tariq explains. “I can’t imagine a more beautiful thing.”

The song has gone so viral, in fact, the official TikTok account of TikTok has changed it’s bio to read, “it’s CORN.”

It isn’t the first time the Gregory Brothers have taken a viral moment and made it musical.

The family band of Michael, Evan, Sarah Fullen and Andrew Gregory are responsible for some of the biggest viral songs of the past decade.

Their ‘Bed Intruder Song’, which featured a news interview with Antoine Dodson, ended up becoming the most watched YouTube video of 2010.

NPR explored the group’s continued success this week.

“I think our videos are really about finding amazing moments on the Internet and celebrating them and amplifying them,” Andrew Gregory said. “They’re about highlighting other people’s interviews, original words. And I think that is what has given our videos staying power.”

Tariq has even lent his viral power to Mexican grill chain Chipotle, who created their most popular ad yet starring the “corn kid”.
